Gamma Sigma Tau History

In the fall of 1986, twelve young men became interested in establishing a multicultural fraternity at the College at New Paltz. Of the twelve, five were white, five were Latino, one was African-American, and one was Asian-American.

The men began to research Greek life and learned about the history of the Delphic Fraternity. They contacted local Delphic alumni and inquired about re-establishing the legendary organization. The young men hoped to incorporate historic Delphic traditions with their own morals of multiculturalism.

The interest group also wanted to recognize the historic organization's brief national affiliation, though remain a local autonomous group. Hard work and determination led these young men to their goal. In March of 1987, the SUNY - College at New Paltz fully recognized the Delphic of Gamma Sigma Tau Fraternity.

Since 1987 the fraternity has promoted multiculturalism via community events, programs, and forums. In the spring of 2003, five new members of the fraternity were initiated to form the Theta Chapter at Binghamton University. The five founding brothers of the Theta Chapter are of Trinidadian, Dominican, Filipino, Russian, and German-Italian heritage.

The Delphic Fraternity became 135 years old in October of 2006. In March of 2007 the fraternity celebrated the 20th anniversary of its re-establishment at New Paltz.
